In response to the original poster, no you cannot upgrade to an i3 or above on your current motherboard if you currently have a Core 2 Duo. The Core 2 Duo and Quad processors are on Intel's socket 775 for desktops. The more modern Intel CPU's such as the i3 are on a different socket, the most recent being 1150 for general consumers. With that said, if your RAM is currently DDR2 most likely if you're on a Core 2 Duo then you'll need a new motherboard and RAM you'll need DDR3 RAM. O Core i3 vem para atender usuários com menor exigência, são os que eu recomendo para usuários de trabalho que usa o computador para internet, Office e até mesmo que alguns aplicativos gráficos, mas de uso casual. Antes o Conceito do mercado para esse tipo de usuário era recomendado o Celeron, felizmente pela a própria exigência e tendência do mercado, os processadores cada vez mais aumentaram o desempenho. Vi alguns testes na internet, de um modo geral o Core i3 é realmente um pouco mais rápido que o Core 2 Duo. Na propaganda a Intel diz que tem 40% a mais de Multi Tarefa, sinceramente não sei qual foi a comparação da Intel fez. Mas nós temos que pensar que comprando um computador ou até mesmo um Notebook com Core i3 ele também vai vir equipado Memória ddr3 que é bem mais rápida que o seu modelo anterior a DDr2.
